With cyclocross season now in full swing, Bicycling Magazine put the new TCX Advanced Pro ’cross bike to the test, publishing the results in a new feature posted at Bicycling.com. Tester Matt Jacobs rode the lightweight composite ’cross machine on rough cyclocross racecourses as well as gravel paths and trails, praising it for its smooth ride, stability and control.

“It feels as fast as any ’cross bike I’ve ridden, but its slightly shorter reach and longer chainstays give it a feeling of increased control and stability,” Jacobs wrote. “The ride took the edge off the roughest courses and kept me feeling fresh throughout the race thanks in part to the proprietary D-Fuse seatpost designed to diffuse vibrations.”

Comparing TCX Advanced Pro’s frame geometry to two other bikes in its class, the Specialized Crux and Santa Cruz Stigmata, Jacobs wrote: “While the wheelbase of all three is almost identical, the TCX’s 430mm chainstay is 5mm longer than the other two, adding a little extra stability on uneven surfaces. Numbers offer some indication of how a bike will behave, but ultimately it comes down to feel—and I felt more comfortable on this than the other two. I felt more confident turning into corners as I felt an increased sense of control. When the course got muddy and loose, I was more able to correct my lines and stay upright.”
